Alzheimer’s Disease and Meat:
World’s top expert on Alzheimer’s disease now speaking out about the connection between meat consumption and the dreaded ailment

For 20 years, I have been telling people that I believe Alzheimer’s disease is related to meat consumption.

The incidence of Alzheimer’s disease in the U.S. has grown in relation to how much meat the U.S. population has been eating. Alzheimer’s, like diabetes and obesity, has grown into a tremendous health problem in the U.S., and rising costs relating to it threaten to collapse the government health systems.

Decades after the invention of mechanized refrigeration, and the mass expansion of refrigerator use, which greatly increased meat consumption, Alzheimer’s was identified in Europe. Since then, the incidence of the disease has increased dramatically – especially in countries that consume the most meat.

Finally, in 2011, the world’s leading expert on Alzheimer’s disease, Dr. Rudolph Tanzi, is now saying that there is a clear connection between Alzheimer’s disease and meat consumption.

Dr. Tanzi is a professor of neurology at Harvard Medical School, Massachusetts General Hospital, and is Director of Genetics and Aging. He is the person who discovered the genes related to Alzheimer’s disease. There is nobody more centric to the study of Alzheimer’s disease than Dr. Tanzi.

Dr. Tanzi is now a vegetarian. He is repeating the message in his public speaking engagements that, to greatly reduce your chances of experiencing Alzheimer’s disease, you should eliminate all meat products from your diet.

Similarly, Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn, recognized as the world’s top heart doctor, also advises people to completely avoid meat, and all animal protein (meat [including fish], milk, and eggs), as a way to prevent and reverse heart disease. (Dr. Esselstyn is the author of the popular book, “Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease: The Revolutionary, Scientifically Proven, Nutrition-based Cure.”)

In all of his studies, Dr. Tanzi has concluded that the animals that consume meat, carnivores, are the ones that experience diseases of dementia.

Dr. Tanzi also says that daily exercise, movement, and staying active are very clearly major keys in preventing Alzheimer’s.

Alzheimer’s is a disease of dementia.

Another disease of dementia is AIDS. Scientists believe that the origins of AIDS also are related to the consumption of meat, and specifically bushmeat in Africa.

Another disease of dementia is mad cow disease, which is also known to eat away at the brain. Mad cow disease is specifically related to the consumption of meat.

Similar to Dr. Tanzi, I advise people to avoid eating all types of meat.

Similar to Dr. Esselstyn, I advise people to follow a completely vegan diet, which is a diet that is totally free of animal protein, including beef, pork, fish, poultry, and other meats (deer, lamb, etc.), and also free of milk (including cheese, creamer, yogurt, casein, whey, ice cream, butter, etc.), and free of eggs.

(People who consider themselves to be vegetarian, but who are consuming cheese may want to reconsider. Rennet is the stomach lining of animals, and it is an ingredient in most cheeses. The dairy industry also kills millions of baby male cows as they are not needed for milk production, and the meat of those baby male cows is sold as “veal.”)

Similar to Dr. Esselstyn, I advise people to avoid consuming clarified sugars (corn syrup, white sugar, brown sugar, etc.), fried oils, sautéed foods, processed salts, bleached grains, and food additives (including preservatives, dyes, flavors, flavor enhancers [MSG], scents, and emulsifiers). Like Dr. Esselstyn, I advise people to follow a low fat diet.

By following a vegan diet free of animal protein, processed foods, highly heated oils, and artificial chemicals, you will avoid consuming substances very clearly known to increase your chances of experiencing a variety of health issues, including colon cancer, breast cancer, diabetes, stroke, cardiovascular disease, erectile dysfunction, macular degeneration, osteoporosis, arthritis, obesity, kidney disease, and diseases of dementia.

“In the coming decades, science will probably be able to ascribe a cause to Alzheimer’s with the same certainty that it can now ascribe a cause to heart disease. And I firmly believe that it will be the exact same cause: meat… Studies have shown that between five and 14 percent of those diagnosed with Alzheimer’s actually suffered from CJD. The amyloid plaques – waxy clumps of protein called beta-amyloid – discovered at autopsy in the brains of Alzheimer’s victims are not terribly unlike the plaques to be found in the brains of victims of CJD. In both cases, abnormal protein buildup in the brain is involved.”

Those who are concerned about mad cow disease may also want to concern themselves with Alzheimer’s disease and Type 2 diabetes. And all those who consume any sort of animal protein, be it milk, cow, pig, fish, fowl, or eggs should also be concerned about all three.

In the U.S., Alzheimer’s disease affects approximately one in ten people over age 65. Over 600,000 Americans under age 65 are living with the disease. For those over age 85 the chances of having Alzheimer’s are nearly 50 percent. In 2006 approximately 4.5 million people had been diagnosed with the disease. As of 2005 the medical costs of supporting those with Alzheimer’s was estimated to cost more than $100 billion.

From where did protein misfolding disease called Alzheimer’s originate? It appears that nobody knows for sure. It has only been a recognized disease since a German psychiatrist and neuropathologist, Aloysius Alois Alzheimer, first identified it as “presenile dementia.” In 1901 Alzheimer noticed the curious behavior and short-term memory loss of a 51-year-old patient, August Deter, at the Frankfurt Asylum. After she died in April 1906, Alzheimer studied her brain and identified the amyloid plaques and neurofibrilary tangles that became the identifiable physical characteristics of the disease. On November 3, 1906, Alzheimer gave a speech identifying the pathology and clinical symptoms of presenile dementia. His colleague, Emil Kraepelin, later referred to the condition as “Alzheimer’s disease.” Back then it was considered rare. But now there are millions with it, and it is expected to become more prevalent and a huge burden to society. Over 100 times more Americans have it today than just 25 years ago.

Many studies have concluded that the more animal protein you consume, the more likely you are to experience Alzheimer’s. It is interesting that the more animal protein you consume the more likely it is that you will develop Type 2 diabetes.

In Alzheimer’s it is found that there is a buildup of amyloid protein in the brain. In Type 2 diabetes there is a buildup of amyloid protein in the pancreas. Like Alzheimer’s disease, Type 2 diabetes is on the rise.

The heavier you are, the more likely you are to have Type 2 diabetes. People who consume animal protein are more likely to be obese than those who follow a vegetarian diet. Those who follow a vegan diet are even less likely to be overweight. Sunfoodists (vegans who follow an all or mostly raw diet free of fried and sautéed foods, clarified sugars, bleached grains, and artificial chemicals) are even less likely to be overweight.

Currently the number of overweight children is increasing. The number of younger people becoming afflicted with Type 2 diabetes is increasing at the same rate.
Epidemiologists expect that about one in three U.S. babies born in the year 2000 will develop Type 2 diabetes. As those children become adults and continue to eat an unhealthful diet, it is likely that they increase their chances of having Alzheimer’s.

As the consumption of meat and the number of people eating junk food is on the rise throughout the world, the number of children and young adults being diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes is on the rise. It is estimated that there were about 30 million people with Type 2 diabetes in the early 1980s. Today that figure has surpassed 225 million.

Not only the future, but also the present day holds the promise that the more animal protein you consume, the more likely you are to contract the human form of mad cow disease. As Howard Lyman points out in his book, “No More Bull,” the brains of those with the human form of mad cow disease are found to have a buildup of protein plaque in their brain in a similar manner to those with Alzheimer’s disease.

When I first heard of mad cow disease and what it does to the human brain and body, I thought that perhaps there would be a link between mad cow and Alzheimer’s disease. In 1995 I wrote about it in my book, “Surgery Electives.” I was hardly the first person to make the connection. In his book, “The Food Revolution,” John Robbins mentions studies concluding that many presumed U.S. Alzheimer’s victims were actually victims of CJD. If those studies represent current statistics, then there are likely several hundred thousand Americans suffering from CJD.

More recently the book, “Dying for a Hamburger: Modern Meat Processing and the Epidemic of Alzheimer’s Disease,” by Murray Waldman, the Toronto coroner, and Marjorie Lamb puts forth a convincing argument that Alzheimer’s is related to infectious prions. The man who discovered prions, Stanley Prusiner, considered that prions might be causing Alzheimer’s.

Another book that would likely be of interest to anyone wanting to know details about America’s food supply is “Brain Trust: The Hidden Connection Between Mad Cow and Misdiagnosed Alzheimer’s Disease,” by Colm A. Kelleher. Among the books that may be of interest on this matter is “How the Cows Turned Mad: Unlocking the Mysteries of Mad Cow Disease,” by Maxime Schwartz, a molecular biologist and former head of the Pasteur Institute in Paris, and Edward Schneider.

What will most certainly guard you from CJD? Not eating animal protein.

What will decrease your chances of becoming a member of both the Alzheimer’s disease and the Type 2 diabetes clubs? It very clearly appears that avoiding animal protein while following a diet that is abundant in fruits and vegetables and other plant substances while staying physically fit are the most promising ways to avoid those dreaded diseases.

It is well documented that following a healthy, balanced vegan diet free from junk food while getting plenty of physical activity will greatly reduce your chances of experiencing diabetes, cancer, obesity, arthritis, cardiovascular disease, and other degenerative diseases, including Alzheimer’s.

This is the Dr Atkins marketing model these crew use to rake in the big $ from the ignorant newbies.

‎’Put down the fruit juice and pick up the meat lovers pizza, bacon and egg breakfasts, big mac sans ketchup( ketchup has 2g of fructose per serve) and laugh as you drive past cyclists and joggers that will end up obese from cardio. If your hungry, eat a green apple but make sure you balance it our with steak fried in lard. When you really want something sweet, its ok to have ice cream as its about a 80/20 rule. Oh yeah, watermelon, that stuff is so high GI it will make you slam on the beef butt.’

I watch silly youtubes each day MORE than I go move my body. I sit down so much each day that I have to work on my posture. I remember getting injured last October and promising myself Id sit around less and move more. Ive still been lazy in that regard.

I like to point out that 1000% of the long term fruit eaters are lean. NO EXCEPTIONS lol! So why are people scared of eating all you can eat fruit? Thats a good question and one Im speechless to with all the obvious living examples around.

But Harley, the moron’s say that if you eat too much fruit in the long run, you get fat from the simple sugars dude! They say an hour a day of movement is not enough and you gotta train hardcore and at least 6hours a day to burn off the 1000g of sugar you average a day..’

Here is some photo’s from a few hours ago. A 5k xc race in the Bronx at Van Cortlandt park. I ran 9th out of 120 runners. Some olympic hopefuls finished in front of me. Ive averaged 10miles a week this year running.

So Ive been a high carb vegan since April 2001. Got onto fruit eating in April 2002 and even most raw food peeps say I eat ‘way too much sweet fruit!’. So my question is: If I train LESS than anyone as fit as me and eat more simple sugars than anyone I know, where is the excess fat?’ How come the same morons that say ‘fruit makes you fat’ say ‘Durianrider is way too lean though!’.

Even my obese Mum was just chatting to Freelee and I via video and Mum’s has a big ‘carbs make you fat so I stay away’ mindset and Mums said to Freelee ‘you look at bit thin there now, you need a good feed…’ So even my Mum’s doesnt get it and she has heard my rants non stop since 2001. 😉

Judge by results vs theory peeps. Get them fad carbo starvo books and throw em in the recycling bin. Its time to eat. Time to live. Time to have fun building and maintaining a lean, fit and strong body. 🙂 Flick starvation, life is about abundance and feasting. The following is some low fruit consumption advocates. I have nothing personal against them. Im just curious why they are fat. Are they sneaking organic bananas late at night?

Does it? Does it vibe with your heart? I say do NOTHING in life if it doesnt vibe with your heart. It is IMPOSSIBLE to be listening to your heart and still be eating animal products. Its impossible to be your healthiest and fittest and still be eating animal products.
